Luxbet are owned and operated by Tabcorp Holdings (TAB), the Australian wagering, gaming, and Keno Operator. TAB listed on the Australian stock exchange in 1994, before going on to launch Luxbet in the latter stages of 2008. TAB operates the on-course betting at over 250 race courses, and this does have an obvious influence over its bookmaking subsidiary, which even has a “ClubXtra” feature which gives owners and trainers in the horse racing industry a 12% bonus if they successfully back their own horse.
If racing is not your thing don’t be put off, there is still a lot for those punters looking to bet on Australian Rules and other markets – Luxbet offers a wide range of sports, both locally and internationally, as well as the odd novelty market.
Besides its high profile owners, Luxbet is perhaps most widely known for its giveaways and free offers, which are generous and do tend to work differently and offer more varied and interesting rewards than the other traditional bookmakers in Australia. For example, one happy punter walked away with a free $140,000 private jet and holiday package, while thousands of others have taken advantage of their free competitions, account top-ups and other members’ only bonuses.
Luxbet has an ever increasing number of live betting options, though due to the Australian gaming regulations this can only be done over the phone.
Despite its reputation as a mainly turf-focusedbookmaker, there is still a lot to offer the AFL fan. It has its own section accessed via the AFL tab at the top of the screen. The available markets are displayed on the drop down menu, with future betting options on the left, forthcoming matches in the center. Each match averages around 170 different markets. These are displayed slightly differently than on other Australian bookmaker websites, but it’s easy to pick up. All the usual options are on offer, the most popular being:
|Total Points over/under||Choose whether the total number of points scored will be over or under the figure stated|
|Pick your own line||Select the winner of the match taking into the account the points start/handicap|
|Half Time/Full Time Double||Select the result at both halftime and the end of normal time|
|Head to Head||Simply select the winner of the match|
|Winning Margin||At the end of normal time|
The Sports Stats feature gives customers access to detailed statistics for all AFL markets.
The website was redesigned in 2013, with the layout, navigation, logos’ and color scheme all changing, causing quite a lot of grief for those customers used to the old version. The changes have improved things however, and it is easy to pick up the new functionality and navigation. It does look a lot different than any other Australian betting website but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
When you go onto the website, the focus on track racing in all its forms is apparent, but again, this shouldn’t put you off. It is easy to locate the AFL section – it has its own tab located prominently at the top of the screen. All the current promotions and cash back specials are listed on the right hand side of the screen.
Clicking on the AFL tab at the top reveals a drop down box featuring all the available markets. When you then go into an individual match it groups the markets as follows:
|Most Popular||Match Winner Markets||Match Goals Markets|
|Team Totals Markets||Team Goals Markets||Match Race to|
|Winner Markets||Totals Markets||Totals Markets|
|Goals Markets||Team Totals||Winner Markets|
|Goal Scorer Markets||Match Totals Markets||Other Markets|
Simply hit the odds on your chosen option and it adds it to your betting slip, which appears on the right hand side. It is easy to add or remove bets, and multiples are displayed at the bottom.
Luxbet were one of the first Australian bookmakers to launch a mobile app, but mobile betting was an area that did let Luxbet down in the past. This has been addressed however, and an overhaul of the app in 2013 now means that they can compete in that market as well, though it just falls short when compared with the very best betting Apps out there. It does offer some neat features however:
- Multi-mode – allows you to place 20 leg multiples on AFL matches
- Well over 100 markets with all major sports covered
- Live streaming
- Access bet history
- Withdraw and Deposit Funds
It has a nice feel about it, with a smooth swipe to scroll feature. Markets can be instantly refreshed by pulling down the screen.
Luxbet also offers a mobile version of their website, for those not wishing or unable to download the app. The mobile site works in a very similar way to the app, and has all the same features regarding placing bets, account history, fund deposits/withdrawals for instance.
